The Secret to Seamless Panelling

8 Dec 2025

Discover the New Button-fix Type 2 & Type 2 Compact!

The future of panel installation is here! We're thrilled to introduce the latest additions to the revolutionary Button-fix family at SWS Hardware: the Button-fix Type 2 and the brand-new Type 2 Compact.

Say goodbye to visible fixings, fiddly installation, and restricted access. These award-winning, UK-made concealed panel fasteners are engineered for speed, simplicity, and secure attachment, making them the ideal choice for removable service and access panels.

Button-fix Type 2: The Access Panel Expert

The original Type 2 is your go-to solution for vertical panels where quick, straight-on access is essential.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • 90° Connection: Designed for fixing panels at a 90° angle, typically onto a frame, carcass, or battens.
  • Straight Push-on Engagement: Simply bring the panel into place and push firmly until the fixing 'clicks'. Removal is a straightforward pull, making maintenance effortless.
  • Zero Clearance: Ideal for applications where there is no clearance above or at the sides of the panel, such as bath panels, radiator covers and boxed-in services.
  • Guide Load: A vertical panel fixed with four Type 2 Fixes can support up to 50kg (provided screws and substrate are correctly matched).

Button-fix Type 2 Compact: Slimline Versatility

The Type 2 Compact offers all the benefits of the Type 2 but in a smaller package, allowing for a reduced installation depth—perfect for tighter spaces and thinner materials.

Key Features & Benefits (Type 2 Compact):

  • Reduced Depth: Its compact design allows the Button to be fitted to the edge of an 18mm panel, making it ideal for access windows and shallow supporting frames.
  • Dual Engagement Option: Comes with interchangeable clips offering both push-on (for easy removal) and drop-down (for greater security and use on angled panels).
  • Specialist Applications: The recommended choice for washroom services ducts (IPS panelling) and removable panels beneath vanity units.
  • Increased Guide Load (Drop-down): The drop-down version offers a higher guide load of up to 120kg (using four Fixes on a vertical panel).

Concealed Panel-Mounting Systems Unlocked

Want to know more about the Button-fix system? Here, we respond to the most commonly asked queries that our customers are searching for.

Q: How does the Button-fix system work?

A: The concept is simple: Durable nylon Buttons are securely attached to the background structure (e.g., wall frame, cabinet carcass). The mating Fixes are attached to the removable panel. You align the two parts and push (or slide, depending on the type) until the Button-fixes 'click' together for a secure, completely concealed fixing.

Q: Why should I choose Button-fix over traditional fixing methods like screws or magnets?

A: Button-fix is faster, more secure, and completely invisible. Unlike screws, the panel is easily removable without special tools or the risk of stripping threads. Unlike magnets or French cleats, the 'click' provides a positive, mechanical lock, ensuring the panel is held securely and won't detach accidentally.

Q: What is the difference between Button-fix Type 1 and Type 2?

A:Type 1 is designed for parallel panel connections (panels to a wall/ceiling) and uses a slide-down or sideways engagement. It's often used for acoustic panels, wall linings, and shelving where high strength is key.

Type 2 (and Compact) is designed for 90° connections (panels to a frame/carcass) and uses a straight push-on engagement, making it perfect for service access panels where zero side clearance is required.

Q: Are accessories available to make Button-fix installation easier?

A: Yes! Button-fix offers the invaluable Fix Marker accessory for both Type 2 and Type 2 Compact. This tool makes setting out and alignment incredibly quick and accurate, even when you're working "blind," without needing constant measuring. The Safety Cord accessory is also available for critical vertical applications where an additional failsafe is required.

Q: How easy are the Button-Fix products to install?

A: They are very easy to install. To make it even easier we recommend using a Fix Marker Compact and the Fix Marker Standard so that your Button-Fix product lines up correctly making your panels become as flush as possible.
