The site was split into 2 floors - basement and ground, with services being taken 10 storeys up through the core of the building. All front of house areas were sited on ground floor level, including reception and cloakrooms, main bar area, private dining rooms, front of house toilets, further prep kitchens and the main restaurant space. The basement comprised the main kitchen areas and staff accommodation.
"The Counter" offers a take-away service and is also situated on the ground floor. With an independent entrance from Aldwych, The Counter offers its own relaxed all day eating service.
One of the most striking features of the restaurant is the chequerboard marble floor below the feature ceilings, set against the background of dark stained oak wall panelling embellished with aged bronze metalwork and gold leaf detailing.
The success of this project led to further contracts with Rex Restaurants - Zedel Brasserie in Piccadilly and Colbert in Sloane Square.
SWS was aware of this being a high end establishment so the appropriate fittings were chosen to reflect this. For example, to suit the floor detail, it featured floor springs to conceal the door closers from view. A number of electronic solenoid Abloy security locks for doors in the food preparation area were included in the SWS ironmongery schedule to allow for access control. Predominantly polished chrome finish was used to give harmony to the classic Art Deco appearance.
