Soudal Silirub 2 Low Modulus Silicone Sealant – 300ml (Buff)

Soudal Silirub 2 is a premium-quality, 100% pure silicone sealant designed for high-performance glazing, construction, and industrial sealing.1 This Low Modulus Neutral (LMN) cure sealant is the industry standard for professionals requiring a flexible, weather-resistant finish that can withstand significant structural movement.

The Buff (Beige/Stone) color is specifically formulated to blend seamlessly with light masonry, Portland stone, and buff-colored uPVC or timber frames, providing a clean, professional aesthetic for both internal and external projects.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Low Modulus Neutral Cure: Offers superior elasticity (ISO 11600 F&G 25 LM), allowing the joint to stretch and contract without losing adhesion.

  • 100% Silicone – No Shrinkage: Unlike cheaper alternatives, Silirub 2 does not contain extenders or solvents, ensuring it maintains its volume after curing.

  • Primerless Adhesion: Bonds exceptionally well to most common building materials, including uPVC, glass, treated wood, metals, masonry, and plastics.

  • All-Weather Resistance: UV-stable, waterproof, and resistant to rain, snow, and extreme temperatures (-60°C to +180°C).

  • Fast Skinning Time: Forms a skin in approximately 9 minutes, allowing for rapid project turnaround.

Comparison: Soudal Silirub 2 vs. Everflex 450

When choosing a professional building silicone, Silirub 2 is often compared to Everbuild Everflex 450. Here is how they stack up:

Feature Soudal Silirub 2 Everflex 450
Silicone Purity 100% Pure Silicone Standard Low Modulus
Colour Range 20+ (including Buff/RAL) Limited selection
Skinning Speed Very Fast (~9 mins) Standard (~15–20 mins)
Toolability High (Thick-bodied paste) Moderate
Application Professional/Industrial General Trade

Why choose Silirub 2? While both are ISO 11600 F 25LM compliant, Silirub 2 is favored by glaziers for its higher viscosity (it doesn't slump) and its "thick-bodied" feel, which makes it easier to tool to a perfect finish in expansion joints.

User Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does "Low Modulus" mean for this sealant?

Low Modulus (LM) means the sealant is softer and more elastic. It is designed to accommodate high movement in joints (up to 25%) without putting stress on the bond line. This makes it the best choice for external expansion joints and window perimeter pointing.

Can Soudal Silirub 2 be painted?

No. Like all 100% silicone sealants, paint will not adhere to Silirub 2. If your project requires painting, we recommend using an Acrylic Caulk or a Hybrid Polymer like Soudal Fix ALL.

Is Silirub 2 safe for double-glazing units?

Yes. Because it is a Neutral Cure silicone, it does not release acetic acid (vinegar smell) during curing. This makes it safe for use with the PVB interlayers of laminated glass and the secondary seals of double-glazed units.

Can I use this on natural stone?

It is not recommended for natural stone (like marble or granite) as it may cause "fatty" staining around the joint. For natural stone, use Soudal Silirub MA.

Application Tips

  1. Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free of dust or grease.

  2. Tooling: Use a finishing solution (like Soudal Joint Finish) or soapy water to smooth the bead immediately after application.

  3. Removal: Uncured silicone can be removed with Swipex Wipes; cured silicone must be removed mechanically.
